Distillations or quintessence of other countries cannot compete with the quality, taste and high technical production standard of the Hungarian palinka, due to the excellent local conditions of the Carpathian basin and the professional fruit growing and proper processing.

The palinka holds the flavour of the fresh fruit and the sophisticated and outstanding labour skill of its manufacturer in itself.

When consuming, flowery, fruity and spicy aroma as well as characteristic, persistent tastes are clearly presented. These peculiarities show and indicate its speciality.

Since July 2002 - when new law relating to the Food Industry came into force - the palinka name became a patent and it can be used only for quintessence made of strictly Hungarian grown fruit, in consequence, the European Union accepted the exclusive Hungarian usage of the palinka name.

There is a huge difference between palinka's real value and how it is judged.

It can be originated from the fact that every alcoholic product (sometimes with poor quality) was allowed to use the palinka name before 1st of July 2002.

At the fest, the distillations will be displayed only by traditional manufacturers, who process high class specialized knowledge and distinguished products.

The Budapest Palinka Fest will be held with the aim of attracting attention for palinka as a historical value, because it is a Hungarian gastronomic heritage for over centuries. More than 500 years old written records and relics keep the memory of the palinka making and consumption.

The organizers of the Palinka Fest are indenting resolutely to clear up misbelieve, draw attention about the differences of poor quality drinks and qualitative palinka products and promote consumption rules and habits.
